Rapid City Chamber of Commerce

The Rapid City area is home to many houses of worship – including churches, synagogues and temples that serve a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional faiths and denominations.

For those who worship daily, weekly or just occasionally, there is always a place for prayer, worship and fellowship nearby. In addition to regular worship services, many special events are hosted by the area congregations, including festivals, bazaars, musical performances, concerts, retreats and more. In the summer many area churches offer Vacation Bible School (VBS) for school-age children. Some offer it for families as well.

The ministries led by local church groups are vast and all-encompassing. Some of the opportunities include food service at the local mission, Operation Christmas Child, which supplies gifts and supplies to needy children around the world, and the Salvation Army, which helps collect coats for cold winters. Love, Inc. (Love in the Name of Christ) offers many programs including the Clothe a Kid program which provides new clothing for low-income students to start the new school year off right. The Love, Inc. Budgeting Program offers financial training and other services. Our church community is always ready to help out. If you are looking to become involved or if you need a helping hand, there is something here for you.

For unique experiences here in the Black Hills, you can attend the Easter sunrise service at Mount Rushmore National Memorial or worship during the summer evenings at the Chapel in the Hills. Also known as Stavkirke, the church is a replica of the famous 11th Century Borgund Church in Norway. Memorial Park hosts Hills Alive, a free summer concert and ministry that brings in many popular Christian bands and performers on multiple stages with programs and events for all ages.

Rapid City also has several Christian schools for those wishing to enroll their children in a private school. For information on education see our education pages.

Rapid City welcomes you, your family and friends to worship and celebrate your faith and become an active participant in our community.
