The Rapid City Area school District is made up of 16 elementary schools, five middle schools, two high schools and one alternative high school academy.
Approximately 13,115 students are served in grades K-12 by a total staff of about 1600 people.

** Black Hills State University - Rapid City  BHSU-RC offers additional educational opportunities through collaborative partnerships with five other S.D. universities: Dakota State University, Northern State University, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, South Dakota State University, and the University of South Dakota                                       

 ** National American University  NAU is a regionally accredited, multi-campus and on-line university offering many degree options in professional and technical fields.      
                            
Oglala Lakota College  Oglala Lakota College, chartered by the Oglala Sioux Tribe, is regionally accredited.  Its mission is to provide educational opportunities that enhance Lakota life.      

** South Dakota School of Mines & Technology  SDSM&T is a 4-year degree college specializing in engineering and related fields.  The 9/19/2012 issue of Forbes said, “Recent graduates of SDSM&T earned more on average than those graduating from Harvard….. where the tuition is nearly four times as high as at SDSM&T.”

** Western Dakota Technical Institute  WDT offers dual enrollment credits to high school students, and provides vocational training in a wide variety of current fields.
